Passa is a traditional Indian dice game which has been played throughout India for millenia.
The game originates from a very primitive game of dice played with the nuts of the Vibhitaka trees and is mentioned in ancient texts such as the Ramayana. The nuts were used as they had five very flat sides, which could be marked and rolled.
The game then developed into what is now known as Passa.
Passa dice only have four sides and they represent the numbers 1, 3, 4 and 6.
The game is played by throwing the dice until they land on a double. When they land on a double then the game ends.
Before the game starts players choose whether they want to be Jeetae or Hare.
Jeetae means that the dice will land either with a double four or a double six. Hare means that the dice will land either with a double one or a double three.
Therefore the player has a 50% chance of winning the game. In this way it is very similar to what is known around the world as heads or tails.
